SA Museum

The South Australian Museum is a treasure trove of history, science, and culture. With a strong commitment to accessibility, the museum offers a range of features to ensure all visitors have a comfortable and enriching experience. Key accessibility features include:

  • Wheelchair and pram access throughout the museum.
  • Accessible toilets on every floor.
  • Hearing loops available in key areas.
  • Accessible parking spaces close to the entrance.
  • Sensory friendly evenings are run regularly.
  • Free sensory backpacks are available for loan upon request at the security desk. Each backpack contains a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, a soft toy, and some communication cards.
  • A sensory map and sensory story are available on the website.

Adelaide Zoo

Home to over 2,500 animals and 250 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish, the Adelaide Zoo is a fantastic destination for nature lovers. Accessibility features include:

  • Wide, flat paths suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
  • Accessible toilets and baby change facilities.
  • Wheelchair hire available at no cost.
  • Free entry for carers accompanying visitors with a Companion Card.
  • Step-free access to all exhibits unless posted otherwise.
  • Relaxed Zoo Hours every Monday and Wednesday from 3-4.30pm, and Saturday morning Relaxed Morning Zoo sessions run every 3 months.
  • Communication Boards installed in a few locations around the zoo display images, icons, and illustrations that help people with limited language skills express themselves.
